Theme 1 Research , Derek Clark Photography.

I have found it very difficult to find a body of work by just one photographer showing images in the tilt shift style. I have up to now just found a few, one of which is Derek Clark. Derek works mainly as a wedding photographer in Lanarkshire , Scotland , but also pictures live musicians as well as playing music live himself. It was through a internet search engine I came across his website and within it found a project he had  completed called Miniature Glasgow. A link is shown here.

Above shows a picture taken by Derek of a street scene in front of the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow. All though the miniature effect does seem to work quite well his chose of angle and his composition could have been better. The picture to me is spoilt by the inclusion of the window ledge to the left in the forefront and the degree of the angle the image has been taken is a little too steep. Saying that I do like how he has been able to keep the top right of the building on the right in focus while the top left of the image is blurred. The people crossing the zebra crossing have worked well and do look like miniature models. Looking at it to me this has been digitally edited either photoshop or another program. The colour's have been increased as this looks to have been a typical wet Scottish day. By doing this he has given the picture more vibrancy and more of a sense of the scene being of a model.

Above is my image with a similar feel to it .This was taken from a roof car park in Burton upon Trent . I have widened the area of the focus band within the tiltshiftmaker website. By doing this I have kept a larger area in focus thus increasing the tiltshiflt effect to include the car in foreground through to the people towards the background . This has worked well as I've made the buildings in the right of the picture look like models in a town town. My angle used is a much shallower one , I found this has helped to get a better balance to the blurring thus helping the viewer to imagine they are kneeling down and peering into the street scene.

Above we see another of Derek's miniature / tiltshift pictures , this time taken again in Glasgow but in a Arts galleries museum. This I do like a lot . As you can see this time the focus band does not run parallel at the bottom of his image but does to the top around the stone pillars , this must have been done within Photoshop and works very well. Or he has cropped the picture and slightly tilted the image to give this effect. Again the vibrance and the colours have been increased to maximise the effect of a miniature scene.

Here is my take on his image , this was taken from the upper floor of a shopping centre again in Burton. As you can see it's not as well lit as Derek's image but does have a similar feel to it . My colours are a little bolder then his which makes it feel more miniaturized but his digital processing to create the effect is better . I will re process mine to try and create a better image.
